Once a year, payment facilitators – and those thinking about being PFs – get to huddle with peers to learn more about mastering this fast-moving space.
This year, that event is on May 11 in Las Vegas. Payment Facilitator Day: A Closer Look is a full day of content by, for, and about PFs presented by PaymentFacilitator.com at the Electronic Transactions Association’s TRANSACT, the organization’s signature industry conference.
Attendees will have the chance to hear from and network with leaders in the space, including Adyen and Square.
The event fulfills a need for both education and community building among this rapidly growing subset of payments businesses, according to Todd Ablowitz, president of Double Diamond Group.
Before this event, PFs might find a bit of content geared to their business scattered here and there among broader payments sessions at industry conferences. There was no place to deeply explore relevant issues.
To remedy that in early 2015, Ablowitz approached Jason Oxman, CEO of ETA, who agreed that, as a leading trade organization for the payments industry, the organization was the perfect host for such an event. Oxman suggested launching at the group’s TRANSACT conference, which was to be held in six weeks.
Despite the compressed timeframe, the organizers managed to assemble a few hours of specialized content that was well-received by about 100 attendees from existing payment facilitators and interested companies.
Now in its third year, the event continues to grow. Show organizers hope to accommodate 200 attendees with a full day of content and networking opportunity.
Industry leaders including Mike McGirr of Adyen and Kevin Harris of RunSignUp, as well as Ablowitz and Deana Rich of Rich Consulting, publishers of PaymentFacilitator.com, will lead panel discussions.
“It’s built for payment facilitators and those who are looking to become a payment facilitator, as a space for them to go and learn and be with each other,” Rich said. “It’s intended to be very educational, whether the topic is what’s happening today, what’s happening tomorrow, or what happened yesterday that we need to learn from.”
This year, the event kicks off with a keynote address from Carl Perry of Square. He is slated to talk about ways developers can solve complex problems and make smart decisions when creating customized e-commerce solutions.
Acquirers and some of the industry’s top payment facilitators will explore the issues PFs and their partners face every day, including the burning issues in regulation and compliance for 2017, and a look at where the market is headed.
Finally, a special guest speaker from a prominent Silicon Valley company will wrap up the day in a session that is not to be missed.
Check out the TRANSACT web site to see the full agenda and request an invitation while you’re there. To keep the event tightly focused for payment facilitators and those considering the model, registration is invitation-only and space is limited. Attendees also must be registered TRANSACT attendees to attend Payment Facilitator Day.
Ablowitz said he expects the event to continue to expand to accommodate the maturing industry.
“This is a fast-moving space. It’s new, it’s moving quickly and there’s all kinds of mythology and unknowns,” Ablowitz said. “So, here’s the opportunity to speak with your peers and your sponsors, who are all experts about the topics of the day.”
ETA’s new Payment Facilitator Committee, which was announced in February, will also hold its first meeting at the conference. Attendees at Payment Facilitator Day will have the opportunity to network with committee members, where they can express interest in committee membership or provide input into the group’s agenda, Ablowitz said.
